Art Director (Retail / Lifestyle & Home Décor)

Rate: $40–$47/hour
Location: Remote + Onsite for Shoots & Productions (GTA-based)
Duration: 6-12+ months

Overview

Our retail client is seeking an experienced Art Director to join their creative team in a contract capacity. This role will support the development of high-impact creative campaigns across both brand and key eCommerce categories, with work spanning omni-channel marketing initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in retail lifestyle storytelling and fashion/home décor-focused creative, with proven experience leading shoots, developing digital-first concepts, and delivering visually compelling work that consistently drives the brand forward.

Working closely with other Art Directors and frequently collaborating with producers, designers, copywriters, and internal stakeholders, this role will play a key part in shaping campaigns across email, web, paid social, print, and more.


What You Will Do

  • Lead the development of creative campaigns for both brand and key categories, including concept development, presentations, and production execution

  • Be involved in all aspects of creative work—from initial ideation and overall look and style, to on-set direction for photo and video shoots, through to post-production approvals and final layouts

  • Support 2–3 shoots and productions per month, attending onsite in the GTA as required

  • Develop strategically relevant creative solutions based on information gathered from creative briefs and integrated team members

  • Ensure all creative work aligns with brand strategy, tone, and established style guides

  • Offer a confident creative point of view while collaborating with cross-channel creative partners across eCommerce, digital, print, paid media, and more

  • Partner closely with copywriters and designers to develop integrated campaign concepts that meet business and brand objectives

  • Regularly attend briefs, production meetings, group reviews, and presentations as needed

  • Oversee all aspects of art direction for assigned projects, including:

    • Talent and prop sourcing

    • Production oversight

    • Presentations to senior leadership

  • Bring an in-depth understanding of imagery, composition, and design, with proven experience working on set alongside photography and video teams

  • Research, identify, and recommend best practices based on industry and consumer trends, with a strong awareness of emerging digital and social-first creative

  • Manage multiple projects with excellent organization, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight timelines


What You Will Need

  • 6+ years of experience in Graphic Design, Art Direction, or Marketing, with a strong focus on fashion and/or home décor

  • Experience working in an integrated agency or lifestyle retail brand, with campaign work spanning across:

    • Digital

    • Social

    • Print

    • OOH / broadcast (asset)

  • Strong digital-first conceptual skills; motion graphics experience is considered an asset

  • Excellent visual storytelling, creative conceptualization, and written/verbal communication skills

  • Confidence pitching and presenting creative ideas to stakeholders and leadership

  • A positive, team-oriented approach—flexible, optimistic, solutions-focused, and collaborative

  • Ability to execute projects end-to-end, from rough concepts through final delivery across all channels

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed, with strong project management skills

  • Deep knowledge of design fundamentals: layout, typography, colour theory, and production processes

  • Proficiency in industry-standard design tools including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat in a Mac environment

  • Comfort adopting new technology and internal workflow systems

  • Global awareness of trends across retail, fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and home categories

  • A desire to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving, and dynamic creative environment
