Senior Product Designer, Design Systems & Thought Leadership (IC)

Salary Range: $130,000–$150,000 CAD
Location: Remote, Canada

About the Role

We’re partnering with a large, established fintech organization undergoing a major transformation to find a Senior Product Designer with deep expertise in design systems, strategic thinking, and cross-functional leadership.

This is not a people management role — but it is a highly influential individual contributor position. You’ll operate at the intersection of design, product, and engineering, shaping the future of how teams build, scale, and deliver consistent customer experiences.

With a major rebrand underway — the organization’s largest initiative this year — this role will lead the creation of a new design system from the ground up, defining how design and development work together moving forward.

What You’ll Be Doing

Design Systems Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the end-to-end creation of a new design system from scratch, aligned to a company-wide rebrand and new visual identity

  • Define the roadmap for foundational system elements, including a new token-based architecture

  • Partner closely with Engineering to ensure the system is operationalized in code — not just in Figma

Thought Leadership & Future-Forward Design

  • Bring a forward-thinking lens to design systems, including exploring questions like:

    • What does a modern design system look like in an AI-enabled world?

    • How do we increase velocity and reduce friction across teams?

    • How do we move from “feature factory” execution to more strategic, future-facing product thinking?

  • Champion experimentation and prototyping — making it easier for teams to test, iterate, and innovate

Cross-Functional Coaching & Influence

  • Act as a design systems thought partner to product and engineering leaders

  • Coach and guide designers and developers through best practices, system adoption, and scalable workflows

  • Identify bottlenecks in current processes and proactively propose solutions that improve efficiency and collaboration

Migration & Operational Excellence

  • Develop and lead a migration strategy from the legacy design system, which currently includes multiple themes and inconsistent patterns

  • Drive rollout planning, governance, and adoption across product teams

  • Ensure the system improves quality, consistency, and speed across both design and engineering execution

What We’re Looking For

  • A senior-level product designer with deep expertise in design systems and scalable UX frameworks

  • Experience building or significantly evolving design systems in complex product environments

  • Strong understanding of the design-to-development lifecycle, including component implementation and tokenization

  • Comfort operating as a strategic IC and influencing without formal authority

  • A proactive, future-oriented mindset — someone who asks the right questions and drives meaningful change

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across Product, Design, and Engineering
