Senior Manager, Marketing Automation

We’re seeking a Senior Manager, Marketing Automation to lead a team of developers responsible for designing, optimizing, and deploying sophisticated data-driven customer journeys across a well-established marketing technology ecosystem for our financial client. This role blends deep technical leadership with strategic oversight, guiding a high-performing team in advanced automation, personalization, and cross-channel communication strategies.

This position reports directly to a senior leader and partners closely with enterprise digital, governance, and marketing technology teams. The successful candidate will serve as the primary technical authority for marketing automation, offering hands-on expertise while shaping best-practice frameworks, standards, and long-term capability growth.

The environment is collaborative, tight-knit, and long-tenured. The incoming leader must be approachable, trusted, and able to integrate seamlessly into a professional yet relaxed culture.

Onsite expectations, downtown Toronto: 3 days per week


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Lead and support a team of five developers, providing technical direction and coaching.

  • Establish and maintain standards, processes, and quality controls aligned with enterprise digital best practices.

  • Manage production schedules to ensure accurate and timely deployment.

  • Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes effectively to stakeholders.

  • Support a mature MarTech environment with no current modernization requirements.

Marketing Automation & Technical Delivery

  • Offer hands-on support in HTML, AMPScript, SQL, and related development tasks as needed.

  • Oversee the build, QA, and deployment of omnichannel journeys using Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

  • Guide development of dynamic content, segmentation, triggered messaging, and multi-step automations.

  • Collaborate closely with developers and Scrum Master on campaign execution and release management.

  • Ensure optimal use of established platform capabilities to enhance lifecycle programs.

Compliance, Governance & Risk Management

  • Serve as SME on digital communication best practices and email compliance regulations.

  • Monitor deliverability metrics, unsubscribe rates, bounce rates, and complaint activity.

  • Maintain and refine compliance processes related to privacy, consent, and anti-spam regulation.

  • Identify issues within journeys, data flows, or deployments and resolve or escalate promptly.

Data, Insights & Reporting

  • Deliver post-deployment analytics and performance insights.

  • Track automation health and operational KPIs, recommending improvements based on trends.

  • Support CRM programs and database marketing workflows with strong data literacy.

  • Automate or troubleshoot data flows into Marketing Cloud where necessary.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.

  • 5–10 years of HTML and Salesforce Marketing Cloud experience (Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Contact Builder, Advertising Studio).

  • Demonstrated leadership experience (technical or people management).

  • Strong understanding of email development best practices.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.

  • Advanced problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

  • Hands-on experience with AMPScript or similar scripting languages and SQL.

  • Expertise in segmentation, dynamic content, triggered messaging, and data-driven automation.
